This is copy and pasted from a response to another thread and edited slightly for readability. It is purely my opinion, but I do feel it is the best way to buy and spend AUR. Posting it here to get some exposure to new players curious about spending money on DUST. Take from it what you will.
Buying AUR
The rate is 2000AUR : 1USD. Larger AUR packs give you more bonus AUR, raising the AUR : USD rate. Buy the larger packs.
For example, if you would buy a 40kAUR pack for 20USD every month, save for 2 and a half months instead and get a 100kAUR pack for 50USD, or save longer to get a 200kAUR pack for 100USD.
Also try to only buy AUR with a promotion like a sale, or bundled with Omega boosters. Something like that.
Spending AUR
A 30 Day Booster is 14,000AUR. That's about 7USD/mo. Shorter duration boosters are more expensive.
Only buy 30 Day Passive boosters, period. Don't even consider shorter duration Passive Boosters.
Only buy 7 or 30 Day Active Boosters. With those lengths for the active boosters you can plug them in and start playing on Friday or Saturday, cap out, and still have some booster left for next weeks cap. (Bonus SP from active boosters DOES NOT come out of your active SP weekly cap.)
Note: I seem to recall that 30 Day Active/Passive Boosters are normally 28kAUR, but seem to be 14kAUR in the market. I'm not sure if this is their new price or if that's a sale price. I'll correct this when I find out.
Do NOT waste AUR on in game gear. Use a MLT version of that thing you want to try out so bad. If there isn't a MLT version of what it is you want, look for a LP version. If there isn't an LP version, suck it up and put the very little SP into the skill you would need for a Basic/STD version.
Other than AUR, some things could be worth your money. Watch for things on extreme sale. For example, the 'Tactical Edition' is normally 20USD and a once per account purchase, but a month or so ago it was on sale for 5USD. Its contents made it worth it and that price.
